The Brick Oven

I wrote this for my media writing class and I thought it was good so I thought I would post it here, ENJOY!

It is a smell that will intoxicate you before you even enter the building and an aroma that keeps you coming back and wanting more, but once you walk into the room immediately your mouth starts watering and there is no way you could turn around and walk out. The smell is holding you captive and making your stomach sound like something from the Lion King.

There is only one place in the Provo area that could generate this kind of reaction and it’s a local pizza place named Brick Oven. Often amongst BYU students, comments like “yeah I have been to Brick Oven and I go all the time” or “I love it and you are not a BYU student until you have gone to Brick Oven” come up. But when talking to someone who has just been to the popular pizza place, they describe it as if the smell and taste of the restaurant was right then and there.

“I love the Brick Oven because the pizza is out of this world and you make whatever kind of pizza you want, there are no limits, well unless you run out of money but either way you get it just the way you want it,” said Natalie Albretson, a neighboring BYU student,.

At the Brick Oven, you can make a pizza with almost anything you want. The toppings on a “make your own pizza” have quite the variety and according to Albretson you can either be really healthy with your pizza or really unhealthy it’s completely up to you.
“Brick Oven is like a BYU must, you can’t graduate from this university without doing certain things and visiting certain places and Brick Oven is definitely very high on everyone’s BYU bucket list, or at least it should be,” said Ogden Mills, a BYU sophomore.

The to-go box is easily accessible for those whose stomachs are temporarily too full of the cheesy goodness. It is not a regular occurrence for people to not finish their pizza on the spot or to not take it home and enjoy its flavor for days to come.

“It’s like a sin to just leave your pizza there and either not finish it or not take it home. If I’m gonna pay money for this pizza you better believe it will all eventually end up in my stomach,” said Conor McManus, a “seasoned” BYU student.

To evoke this reaction, Brick Oven must be quite the experience to leave people’s mouths watering days after their last visit. The secret to this mouth-watering adventure is the ambiance of the restaurant, which is very much shaped around the name. It has brick and wood as its structure and just a warm feeling to it. It also doesn’t hurt that as soon as you walk in the door the walls have BYU paraphernalia which instantly creates a strong fondness between Brick Oven and the faithful Cougars.

A waitress Mekala said, “It’s the atmosphere that makes me enjoy working at Brick Oven, the smell, the people, and the food… it just all makes for a really fun job.”

End of Story!
